Why Polyurethane Outperforms Rubber and Metal
Polyurethane rollers offer a combination of properties that neither rubber nor steel can match on its own. Compared to rubber, urethane rollers deliver significantly higher load-bearing capacity, superior abrasion resistance, and a longer service life, which means fewer replacements and less unplanned downtime. Compared to bare metal rollers, polyurethane provides better shock absorption, reduces system vibration, and protects conveyed products from marring, scratching, and surface damage.
Additional performance advantages include resistance to oils, greases, and many industrial chemicals; a broad operating temperature range; and the ability to be cast in durometers from very soft to very hard, depending on the application requirements. For facilities that process food or pharmaceuticals, we also offer FDA-compliant polyurethane formulations that meet regulatory contact requirements. We also manufacture polyurethane conveyor rollers as slip-on roll covers designed to fit over the O.D. of standard-size metal conveyor rollers. These covers provide a cushioned, wear-resistant, non-marking surface that reduces system noise by as much as 10 decibels compared to bare metal, while also protecting conveyed products from surface damage.
For applications where stock sizing works, our DuRollers product line offers dual-durometer urethane rollers available in 20" standard lengths with multiple I.D. and O.D. options. DuRollers can be band-cut or lathe-cut to length and installed quickly, providing the most economical path to a custom-fit roller from standard tooling.
