SHEET METAL BENDING: MAR-FREE for Architectural Applications

SHEET METAL BENDING: MAR-FREE for Architectural Applications

In Architectural applications such as facades of buildings, the material of choice is typically pre-polished 316 Stainless Steel because of its exceptional corrosion resistant properties. These buildings look like new for a very long time with very minimal or no maintenance.

An  Architectural Project which we worked on recently in New York City

Photo 4 shows the completed project 50’ x 250’, consisting of 700 panels ( Air Foil Louver blades as per drawing 1 ), made of 0.125” thick x 26” x 120” Aluminum sheets. We designed and machined the two steel Punches and used one SMART PAD® URETHANE RADIUS PAD SYSTEM for the bottom Die. The same Urethane bottom Die was used for bending the two ends with a radius of 1.446” and another Radius Punch was developed to bend the 18.7264” radius ( allowing for spring back) with both ends machined to tangentially blend the end radii with the large radius. The large radius punch was 8” wide and the large radius segment was formed in 3 hits. The complete panel was bent in 5 hits. The panels were bent with consistent dimensions and overall quality was superior with no bump lines or surface marks whatsoever.

1-V DIES:

Urethane molded V-DIES are one of the most economical, easy to use method of making mar-free bends in pre-polished stainless steel, aluminum and pre-finished surfaces (painted, vinyl coated), IN HIGH VOLUME PRODUCTION RUNS.

URETHANE V-DIES 1-V DIES

2-V DIES

Molded Urethane 2-V DIES are Quick change designs that are designed to fit on a machined rail that fits on the bed of a Press Brake. To change the size of the V-opening, the operator just snaps on a different size V-DIE, and the Die opening aligns with the center line of the machine.

Quick change rails are available for Amada, American and Trumpf style Press Brakes.

Molded Urethane 2-V DIES

4-V DIES

4V-DIES are molded to shape using a very hard tooling grade Urethane for SCRATCH-FREE bends in pre-polished stainless steel, aluminum and pre-finished surfaces (painted, vinyl coated).

  • 4-V Dies are square shaped, designed to fit in steel holders. Acute angle and 90 degree bending V-Dies are available to fit in the same steel holders.
  • Standard lengths available are up to 48". For longer bends, butt pads end to end in a longer steel holder.

Steel Holders with mounting tangs for AMERICAN, AMADA & TRUMPF PRESS BRAKES are available in the following sizes, in Working heights of 50mm (1.96") and 100 mm (3.93").
