Airplane Wing Sections
Four different shapes of wing sections were formed with a sectioned, inserted steel bottom and a Urethane Pad as the punch. All sides were formed , cup shapes were drawn and blanked in the same hit.
This project is to build a tooling system to bend a 16 Ga. galvanized steel radius corrugated sheet into a 90 degree bend across the corrugation. With the SmartPad™, the customer were able to bend the excess metal around these protrusions to make a neat looking bend.
These detailed covers are formed in a 3 step process, with no distortion of the form in a 90° turn.
Heat Exchanger Panel
These panels are formed from Stainless Steel sheets, with a steel bottom and a Die-Thane sheet used as a forming pad. Deep details can be formed without bump lines, and tooling costs are 1/10 of conventional tooling.
Urethane pads are used in a variety of pad-bending applications. Pads can be designed to be used similar to a 'Hydro forming' application, to form a variety of parts. This gives many advantages, such as:
• Versatility and accuracy of parts formed is very good
• Cost advantage is phenomenal compared to conventional 'hydro-forming'
• Cost saving is many, many thousands.
